ISTE Standards for Coaches 1: Coaches inspire educators and leaders to use technology to create equitable and ongoing access to high-quality learning.
A change agent creates and cultivates a shared vision through which effective peer-based instructional coaching can occur. While starting with the standards creates a common foundation, the change agent sees new possibilities built upon this common base and empowers others to do so as well. The change agent does so in an equitable manner that creates agency at all levels and instructional roles across a building. By meeting others where they’re at and starting with their “why”, the change agent can help empower all to achieve a common “what” while empowering this through a variety of approaches, or the “how”. Equitably celebrating others’ success is also important. By recognizing and rejoicing together when our peers grow and achieve, the change agent helps to motivate peers while also finding personal motivation in their success. The change agent’s effect transcends a given building and district by connecting and networking with like-minded leaders across a given region and even nationally, both sharing and bringing lessons learned back to empower peers that the change agent collaborates with on a daily basis.
